Planning for the Chuck Mathena Center began in early 1994, and was soon followed by extensive research regarding the community’s need and support of such a project. After much consideration, the project was approved by the Board of Directors and the search ensued for a property able to accommodate the needs of the Center. In 2003, a beautiful 5.16 acre parcel was secured in Princeton, West Virginia, the county seat, via a joint effort of the Chuck Mathena Center and First Community Bank, N.A.
Groundbreaking Ceremonies were held for the Chuck Mathena Center on March 2, 2005, with a host of state and local officials, community partners, and eager citizens joining the celebration. A letter was received by Governor Joe Manchin III, expressing how ‘extremely impressed’ he was by our mission and facility, and commending the Chuck Mathena Center for it’s intent to focus on exposing West Virginia’s youth to the performing arts.
With continued fund raising efforts, it is the hope of the foundation as well as the community, that the Grand Opening Ceremonies can be held in
Spring 2008.

This photo, courtesy of Grubb Aerial Photography, was taken in early May, 2006. As you can see, the progress on construction is evident. This shot was taken only weeks before the roofing effort was to begin.
